Kickstarter Update #7: Long Overdue Update – 40% Goal Hit and Surpassed!

I have a little explaining to do.

I have been buried trying to get my printing, t-shirts and details (finding whole corn in Brooklyn is a very difficult task let me assure you) together for this exhibition. To top it off, I was in bed most of the day feeling miserable. My wife said something about me working on this project too much. 🙂 I am little bit behind on updating. I have been blown away with the pledges! Thank you so much for your support! We hit the next… (read more here…)

I know that many people wait till the last minute to pledge. Ok people(read more here…)

I want to point out a few rewards that haven’t been taken advantage of yet.
This first one below would really help get us going to meet this pledge goal.
$400 – SIGNED AND NUMBERED 1/1 SPALTED MAPLE SCULPTURE AND NAME AND WORK IN EXHIBITION CATALOG AND INCLUDES AN EXHIBITION CATALOG – I will sculpt a good sized chunk of this spalted maple into a simple form w/ exotic wood base & steel support. The sculpture can be removed from base mount. Each is original! One of the SCULPTURES in the Exhibition Catalog, YOUR NAME IN CATALOG & on WEBSITE. Also of course, I will include the EXHIBITION CATALOG, send a BEAUTIFUL EXHIBITION GREETING CARD with MY SINCERE THANKS, POSTCARD & SEED PACKET. This is a LIMITED REWARD, don’t let it get away! See example below.

Darin M. White sculpture Two, One, Carved Spalted Maple, Cocobolo Wood, Steel, 2011, Private Collection

If the above is a little bit more than you are able to handle, how about this one:
$300- YOUR CHOICE OF ONE ORIGINAL TRANSFER PRINT ON COPPER PLATE, CUSTOM FRAMED IN SOLID MAPLE BY ARTIST WHICH WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE SOLO EXHIBITION AND EXHIBITION CATALOG – PRE-PURCHASE one of the WORKS from this solo exhibition! Your choice of ONE of ONLY TWO WORKS AVAILABLE! “APPROPRIATE ATTIRE: EARTH AND BURLAP” or “APPROPRIATE ATTIRE: BURLAP AND ASHES”. (See image of both to the left). It is a fraternal twin, sponsor both for $300 each and you have the pair! Also included is the EXHIBITION CATALOG, an IMAGE OF THIS WORK in the Exhibition Catalog, YOUR NAME ON WEBSITE and in the CATALOG, a HANDWRITTEN NOTE GREETING CARD with MY THANKS, the POSTCARD, & SEED PACKET.

My image of the copper works aren’t a very good, so I included one of the works below not show on copper, so you can see the details.

Apparently there aren’t very many people who like to be surprised out there!? No, I don’t believe it! Here is a great reward that no one has jumped off a cliff for…yet! I included another drawing example below, so if this helps.

SURPRISE QUICK SKETCH AND EXHIBITION CATALOG- For you gamblers and lovers of the thrill! A DRAWING that I make up on the spot. It will look like one of my sketch book drawings, could be pen or pencil depending on my mood. Or, I may pull out a work (print or drawing) FROM MY FLAT FILES! Also you get the EXHIBITION CATALOG, PERSONAL THANKS, GREETING CARD, POSTCARD, SEED PACKET & NAME ON SITE.

Darin M. White, Arrow Antler, Ink on paper, 2012

Ok, last one to highlight. This one a couple of you have pledged for this one. I have had great responses to these works. Each one is different, and made with solid beautiful spalted maple wood.

SPALTED MAPLE WEARABLE SCULPTURE – If you are unsure what spalted maple is see the image and description area. After sculpting, it is connected to a silver chain or a leather necklace adding the “wearable” part to “sculpture”. So, you get the SPALTED MAPLE WEARABLE SCULPTURE, plus a NOTE OF THANKS ON GREETING CARD, POSTCARD, SEED PACKET & NAME ON SITE. This willwork for either sex. The one show below is on a different chain than what will be provided, unless it is what you would prefer. This is again, just an example as this is my wife’s, and she refuses to let this one go. You however can specify rough idea of shape and size. The one below is an extra large showpiece, but some prefer a smaller scale. Want to see other examples? Click here.

Ok, that wraps up this long update…Go forth and support creativity!

Darin M. White: Overflow – A Debut New York Solo Exhibition Invitation

Press Release:

Darin M. White: OVERFLOW – A Debut New York Solo Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: April 13-26th, 2012

Opening Reception April 13th, 6-9pm

SOAPBOX GALLERY
636 Dean Street
Brooklyn, NY 11238

A Lawrence, Kansas based artist and arts advocate brings
his debut New York solo exhibition to Brooklyn. White
equates his artwork to digging in the field, looking for
treasures and mysteries to uncover and reveal. This current
work is related to visions and dreams, which he hopes will
raise questions for the viewer about the life they are living.
These concepts can be seen in Overflow, in which he states;
Overflow conjures thoughts of farmland, barns and brimming
silos. Seeds are important and are traded as a commodity.
Cycles of life happen whether we understand the process
or choose to bury our head. Our land resources and life are
laid out in front of us, one moment at a time.
What will we do with what we are given?”

If you would like to have more background on my thoughts
and ideas behind this work, or if you have any other questions,
please let me know.

With a lack of funding from the State of Kansas for the arts, I am looking for
alternative ways to fund this project. I am thankful for a funding platform like
Kickstarter and am grateful for people who love creative endeavors and

choose to encourage artists in a tangible way by pledging their support.

KICKSTATER Update #5: “The Little Engine That Could®!”

Perhaps this update gets its name from the fact that I have an almost 2 year old and inspiration is found in the strangest places, but this project is becoming The Little Engine That Could®!

We are at $1,691 pledged which is 33% funded with a
total
of 58 backers and 10 days to go!

We can do this! Thank you so much for all of the pledges, sharing this around, tweeting about it, Facebooking it, etc. etc. There have been some clever ways of getting the word out, and it is all appreciated. As great as all of our efforts have been, unless we hit the $5,000 by April 7th, 2012, 5:03pm (CST) then this project will not get funded. If you have any suggestions or creative (read more here…)

I have been asked to share more about the story of the Overflow artwork.
My concept is a site specific sculptural installation that is interactive with the audience/viewer. I am interested in helping people understand the importance of their food source as well raising questions of GMO’s and chemicals that are introduced to our corn and seed supply.

I described part of this earlier under About This Project/ The Project, but when I get to New York, I will scrounge around and find wood pallets to take apart and use to build this barn structure. I like this idea of using reclaimed material to create this container. This “barn” is filled with an estimated 3,000 lbs of whole corn seed (read more here…)

I work a lot in materials and process and to me the understanding of where your food comes from and how it is treated is a very important and often overlooked element of life. My work is object based, but also very much conceptual. Most of my work is more subtle in communication than overt. I hope that this will be a beginning of looking further into food source/ process ideas and the questions about (read more here…)

Kickstarter Update #4: 27%! Creeping Up!

Wow, this is a wild ride and a ton of work. I really, truly appreciate all of your support! It is what is keeping me going right now. It’s a marathon…keep on running… Well it feels like it, but really 25 days is going to be over in a snap. So we are currently creeping up at 27% with 14 days remaining!

I am still hopeful that we can hit 40% by March 25th! The trajectory is a little low for that right now, so any additional help would be a great boost! (Read more here…)

Here is the current list of 47 backers (minus those who preferred to remain anonymous). I am grateful to each one of you and your pledge! Thank you!

Kickstarter Update #3: First Goal $1,000/20%!

THANK YOU!

With your pledges we have hit the first goal –

$1,000 and 20%!

I am very grateful for your encouragement, support, sharing this with your
friends, family and creative/art lovers.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

WE ARE ON OUR WAY to the $5,000 goal. Remember, if we don’t hit that goal in 17 days,
this project will not get funded.
I can tell you don’t want that…I don’t want that either!

As you know we are all busy, if you would be willing to follow up on that email
you sent, facebook post, tweet, or text, phone call, whatever, I think we can really
help this project get wings! If we get enough traffic and pledges to the site, it will
catch the attention of the Kickstarter Staff again and this will help this project
even more!

If you have thoughts about how I could make this Kickstarter project even better?
…please let me know. If there are specific rewards that you feel would help make this happen,
please let me know, I am game! Remember you can always add to your pledge at any time
till April 7th.
How about a pack of six of the Bear Heart thank you cards (shown below)
by adding $20 to your pledge? The front of the card has Bear Heart image on the front, is blank inside,
and has information about the artist and the artwork on the back.

Bear Heart Greeting Card

I think our NEXT GOAL should be DOUBLING this $1,000 to $2,000!
What do you think? Can we do this in 4 days? This would get us back on track
for the $200 a day that is needed to fund this project in time. I am nervous, but
excited too. If these projects were easy EVERYONE would be doing them!
I have put myself out there and you all have been such a great support!
THANK YOU AGAIN!
